European Union High Representative in Kosovo Pieter Feith said that Kosovo’s independence is a closed question that cannot be negotiated any further. “The independence of Kosovo cannot be overturned, there can be no negotiations and that must be taken into consideration,” Feith said at a press conference organized by the Foreign Policy Club in Pristina. Feith: Independence is closed question He said that Serbia must clearly be told that it cannot progress in its European integrations “if it continues to make problems in the deployment of the EU mission [EULEX]”. “In this phase, it should be made clear to our friends in Serbia that Serbia will not be able to move closer to the institutions of the European Union as long as it is creating problems, obstacles in the deployment of the EULEX mission,” Feith said. He added that this mission needs to be deployed parallel with other steps which are being considered for Serbia’s integration into the EU. Feith said that European Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn will visit Kosovo this week, stating that this is a clear sign of support, since the visit will be made on the same day that the UN General Assembly will be voting on Serbia’s proposal to ask the International Court of Justice to give its opinion on the legality of Kosovo’s proclamation. Feith added that it is the legitimate right of Serbia to ask the court for its opinion, but said that the initiative is not helping matters in the current circumstances.
