The Suva Reka war crimes trial has been adjourned after one of the accused, Zoran Petković, had a heart attack.

The Suva Reka war crimes trial has been adjourned after one of the accused, Zoran Petkovic, had a heart attack. The trial chamber has called for a medical examination to determine when Petkovic will be fit enough to return to the proceedings, if at all. The trial has been adjourned until May 5. War crimes defendant suffers heart attack Chamber President Vinka Beraha Nikicevic said that the court had been notified of Petkovic’s heart problem on March 28, and that he had been taken to the Military Medical Academy’s emergency cardiology center. Petkovic is one of the eight Serbian police officers standing trial for the murder of 48 Albanian civilians in 1999. Petkovic’s co-accused are former commander of the "Nis Platoon” police unit Radoslav Mitrovic, Suva Reka police commander Radojko Repanovic, his deputy Nenad Jovanovic, police officers Sladjan Cukaric, Miroslav Petkovic, Ramiz Papic and state security department official Milorad Nisavic. According to the indictment, the accused executed several older members of the Berisha family, before locking the rest of the men, women and children in a nearby pizza restaurant, into which they threw two hand grenades. The indictment states that after the hand grenades had detonated, the officers entered the ruins of the restaurant and killed anyone showing signs of life. It adds that Jashar Berisha and Abdulaj Elshani were also killed by the accused subsequently.
