Austria's government has temporarily put on on hold plans to build a fence along its border with Slovenia, Interior Minister Johanna Mikl-Leitner has said.

Austria temporarily puts aside border fence plans

Austria planned to put up a 25-kilometer fence on the border to manage the migrant flow.

Mikl-Leitner said on Friday that Austria reserves the option of going ahead with the measure, and that preparations for building the fence will be carried out.

She explained that the fence will go up if Slovenia's security measures to ensure orderly flow of migrants, fail to produce results. The Austrian minister noted that a fence could be erected within 48 hours if needed.
