One in two Serbians uses the internet, according to the results of the new Ipsos Strategic Marketing survey. Strategic Marketing agency's Jasna Milosevic said as she presented the results that 52 percent of the total population in Serbia occasionally go online. Among the population over the age of 66 there are only five percent of those who use the internet. Milosevic told reporters in Belgrade on Thursday that 51 percent of Serbians have internet access at home, and that two thirds use it on a daily basis. The research has shown that TV remains the main source of information, with 77 percent relying on that medium, while 13 percent go online for information. This is followed by seven percent who read daily newspapers. According to this, television is preferred by those with lower formal education, living in rural areas. 68 percent of the young polled stated that they use the internet every day. The percentage is lower when a sample of the entire population is taken and it is at 36 percent. "The internet is becoming the primary source of information,” Milosevic asserted, and added that the medium was most commonly used for surfing, e-mailing and social networks. The websites most visited by Serbian are YouTube, Facebook, Google, B92, and Blic. The research was performed in April by phone, and included a representative sample of 2,034 people over the age of 12.
