KOSOVSKA MITROVICA KFOR has made two arrests in connection with Friday’s blast near the Visoki Decani monastery. The Decani’s abbot told a local radio that KFOR confirmed it had arrested two civilians allegedly involved in Friday’s explosion. Two arrests after Serb Monastery blast “We have spoken to Kosovo Police Service (KPS) representatives, who assured us it was in their interest to track down the assailants, as the moment is sensitive and the Decani monastery has been placed under UNESCO protection,” the abbot said. “Therefore we hope that the perpetrators will be caught,” he said, adding that judging from the past “it wouldn’t be surprising if the perpetrators remained at large.” The Decani’s abbot underscored that Friday’s attack was an act of terrorism, speculating that the monastery had been set as a target. He rebuffed speculations that Friday’s blast might be put down to a detonation of an unexploded device that remained in the area from 1999 NATO air campaign. He also reminded that 23 grenades had hit the area around the Monastery since 1999, but that the grenade fired Friday came close to hitting the church itself. “The grenade missed the church by 20-odd meters. That’s why we have to address this case with utmost gravity,” the abbot concluded.
