PODGORICA President of the Queer Montenegro NGO Daniel Kalezic has said that preparations have began to organize a new Pride Parade in Podgorica in the summer. According to him, the organizing committee will once again be composed exclusively of LGBT persons, who will define the topic of the parade and the demands that will be referred to the relevant institutions. Montenegrin activists prepare another gay parade Kalezic also said they were working to make sure that the gathering attracts more participants and is safer than the previous one, and that he "expects the same stance of the state and the same quality of the police response, as was the case during the first Podgorica Pride." Particular attention will be focused on the work of the prosecution, as it provided "a fairly inadequate answer when it comes to the previous two pride parades in Montenegro," he noted. "According to the information we have not a single criminal charge has been brought against hooligans, and there was the basis to do it," said Kalezic. Last year, two gay parades were held in Montenegro - in Budva and in Podgorica, both marred by incidents and violent clashes between the police and opponents of these events, which eventually resulted in the evacuation of participants. According to the latest public opinion poll, as many as three quarters of Montenegrins believe the time is not yet right to organize gay parades, while 46.5 percent said that such events should never be allowed to take place.
