Macedonia's former Interior Minister Ljube Boshkoski has been transferred to the Skopje investigation prison.

Macedonia's former Interior Minister Ljube Boshkoski has been transferred to the Skopje investigation prison. Previously an investigating judge remanded him in custody for 30 days. Ex-Macedonian minister remanded in custody Boshkoski was arrested on Monday afternoon while receiving money for the financing of his party, United for Macedonia, the police claim. They found EUR 100,000, several cell phones and a pistol on his person. His lawyer Ljubomir Mihajlovski confirmed that Boshkoski is suspected of using illegal sources to fund his party's election campaign, as well as abuse of office. Interior Ministry spokesman Ivo Kotevski said that his predecessor had been under investigation for some time, and had been spotted taking money twice before from the same person for the same purpose. He faces three to five years in prison. Boshkoski was the interior minister in the VMRO- DPMNE government from 1998 to 2002. He was a presidential candidate in the 2009 election, when he finished third, and his party did not have much success at the early parliamentary elections held June 5 this year.
