Disaster Management Spokesman Tibor Dobson says that collapse of a part of a toxic sludge reservoir has been prevented. According to him, the authorities continued to repair the reservoir of a Hungarian alumina factory during the night, so residents of the village of Kolontar had to be evacuated. Meanwhile, the authorities are building the second dirt dam which should protect the village of Kolontar from a second wave of red toxic sludge. Dobson pointed out that work is going according to plan. Some residents of the neighboring village of Devecser are leaving their homes. About 500 people have left, while the remaining 5,000 hope that the disaster will not strike again. Seven people were killed, 150 were injured on Moday, while one person is still missing. The authorities stopped pouring gypsum and acetic acid in the Marcal River because the pH value has been reduced from 13.5 to 8.
