Slovenia's move to block Croatia's association negotiations with the EU is a precedent, says Croatian PM Ivo Sanader. Sanader spoke in Zagreb today to say that the blockade will be resolved in the coming months, while Croatia will not give up on its documents related to the border between the two countries. Croat PM: Slovenia setting precedent According to him, Croatia will also achieve its goal of concluding the accession talks with the EU in 2009. Zagreb still insists, Sanader told reporters, that the border dispute be solved at the International Court of Justice, ICJ, in The Hague. He also said there was agreement on this with former Slovenian PM Janez Jansa, supported at the time by opposition parties in both countries. Slovenia has asked that Croatia should not use the documents. that allegedly prejudice the border issue, in its accession documentation and in the possible arbitrage proceedings. Sanader today expressed his gratitude to French President Nicolas Sarkozy for a deal made in December stating that the accession contract between the EU and Croatia will contain a compromise Brussels has offered to Ireland, i.e., that there would not be two separate ratifications, and that the end result of the accession talks would be guaranteed EU entry. Namely, Ireland will organize a new referendum on the Lisbon treaty by the end of October, having previously rejected it. In return, Dublin will receive legally binding guarantees over those issues that worried its citizens, while these guarantees will at a later date be included in the accession contract with Croatia.
