Bosnia will wait till the end of the month for Serbia’s response over the privatization of Bosnian companies in Serbia. Sven Alkalaj told Sarajevo daily Dnevni Avaz that while attending the recent Non-Aligned summit, he had held an informal meeting with Serbian counterpart Vuk Jeremic, whom he reminded of the issue of the sale of Bosnian companies’ assets in Serbia. Bosnia awaiting answer in assets dispute "I reminded him once again that we were still waiting for a response to the diplomatic note we recently sent, and for Serbian courts to stop registering Bosnian companies’ assets for sale by the Serbian Privatization Agency,” Alkalaj said. He said that Jeremic had confirmed that he had received the note, and that it had been forwarded to the Economy Ministry for consideration. "A draft amendment to the privatization decision is also expected, but when and how that happens will depend on the Serbian government,” said the minister. He said that he assumed that Bosnia-Herzegovina had not received a response from Serbia due to the current holiday period, adding that Slovenia and Croatia were waiting on a response to their notes as well. "The Bosnian Foreign Ministry will wait until the end of the month. If we do not receive an answer, we will send an urgent dispatch. This is a very important issue for our country, because it concerns the major assets of our biggest pre-war companies. Those assets, especially the commercial premises, are situated in the most attractive parts of cities, and have huge market value,” Alkalaj explained. The Bosnia-Herzegovina Foreign Trade Chamber estimates the total value of Bosnian companies’ assets in Serbia at somewhere between EUR 1.8bn and EUR 2bn. The companies in question include Energoinvest, Agrokomerc, BNT, Sipad Komerc, and Kljuc, household names in the days of the former Yugoslavia. Bosnia-Herzegovina has, in the meantime, returned assets to all companies in Serbia and the other former Yugoslav republics, Sarajevo media report.
