A Democratic Union of Albanians MP in Montenegro has floated the idea of setting up a form of opposition parliament. “It’s not a bad idea. I will take part in such discussions,” Mehmed Bardhi told Beta, following reports that the opposition would boycott the parliamentary session scheduled for July 21, and hold its own “parliamentary” meetings. Opposition parliament looming in Montenegro Bardhi said that such a move would not be unusual, since, as he put it, ”if there is no live coverage of parliamentary sessions, the opposition should do its work.” “If we can’t hold sessions in parliament’s plenary hall, we can do so in the corridor,” he said, adding that the opposition, should it decide to do so, would only “sit” in the building of the national parliament. Certain opposition parties earlier mentioned the idea of a “parallel parliament”, by organizing press conference while the Montenegrin parliament was in session. The dispute between the ruling coalition and the opposition regarding sessions of the national parliament arose earlier when the state broadcaster announced that, because of financial problems, it was no longer able to broadcast parliamentary sessions live.
