Thaci wants Serbia to support Pristina's UNESCO bid

"Kosovo's UNESCO membership will better preserve and reconfirm Serb cultural and historical heritage," he told the Associated Press.

He also "called on Serbia to support Kosovo's UNESCO bid and look to a future of peace, reconciliation and respect of cultural historic values."

The two-week session of the UNESCO General Conference started on Tuesday in Paris, during which a vote will be held on the recommendation to allow Kosovo to join.

Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic will deliver a speech at the gathering on Wednesday.

Serbia strongly opposes Pristina's bid to join UNESCO, saying it would endanger the nation's cultural and religious heritage.
