Serbia will open Chapters 23 and 24, concerning the rule of law, in the early phase of its EU accession negotiations, most likely early next year.

"Serbia to open Chapters 23, 24 in early phase"

It is excellent for Serbia to start by opening one of the political chapters - Chapter 35 related to the implementation of the Brussels agreement, as some countries insisted, as well as Chapter 32, which is significant for the continued successful management of public finances and support to the fight against corruption, Joksimovic told Tanjug.

"After the agreements reached recently in Brussels, we expect a positive report from the screening for Chapter 35 and I believe that we will be able to open it by the end of the year, and then within two or three months, also in the early phase, Chapters 23 and 24 could be opened as well,“ said Joksimovic.

Chapters 23 and 24 are among the first to be opened, considering that based on the experiences from the previous rounds of EU enlargement they require time for harmonization with the European legislation as they refer to judiciary, fight against corruption, position of minorities and other matters pertaining to the system.
