Stefanovic, Roth: Serbia managing refugee crisis well

Serbia's actions amid the refugee crisis are a sign that, despite its economic problems, the country is able to help refugees passing through its territory, Roth said during a meeting with Stefanovic, adding that he saw that himself when he visited the Belgrade information center for migrants.

He expressed Germany's gratitude to the Serbian people for the assistance provided to migrants on a daily basis, praising the good organization of the Serbian government in handling the problem.

Roth noted that Serbia can count on Germany's assistance in solving the problems with refugees, the Serbian Ministry of Interior said in a statement.

Stefanovic said that he expects Europe to present an aid package soon and specify what Serbia can get. "We are not a rich country, but we want to be part of a European solution," Stefanovic said.

He briefed the German minister on Interior Ministry activities aimed at discouraging potential asylum seekers from Serbia through public campaigns and informing them of the fact that Germany treats Serbia as a safe country and that all asylum requests from the country are therefore rejected.
