Ombudsman: Why was Zelezara contract not submitted?

The information concerning the contract on the management of Serbia's only steel mill was requested by NGO Transparency Serbia.

Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection Rodoljub Sabic has recently urged the ombudsman to launch the procedure and take adequate measures with regard to, as he stated, repeated violations of the law committed by the Economy Ministry, which refuses to submit the Contract on the management of Zelezara Smederevo signed with the Dutch company HPK Engineering to Transparency Serbia.

The Contract on the provision of management and consulting services was signed between the Serbian government, Zelezara, HPK Management and HPK Engineering on March 21.

Despite the fact that the decisions of the commissioner are final, binding and enforceable, the Ministry did not act upon the said request, even after two fines totaling RSD 200,000 were imposed.
