BELGRADE Pristina's decision to prohibit the arrival of officials from Serbia to Kosovo has caused "one of the worst crises in the current negotiations process." Director of the Government's Media Relations Office Milivoje Mihajlovic also said that the decision was damaging to the Brussels agreement. Pristina's decision causes "one of worst crises" Mihajlovic told RTS on Thursday that the decision on how to overcome the crisis was now "in the hands of Brussels and the EU, and EU High Representative Catherine Ashton," and that "concrete moves of Belgrade to the EU" will follow today. This official also noted that local elections in Kosovo are part of the Brussels agreement and meant to be "crowned by the forming of a community of Serb municipalities to protect the interests of Serbs in Kosovo." According to Mihajlovic, "it is obvious that the Pristina authorities are taking steps that are against the interests of the survival of Serbs in Kosovo." He pointed out that the trip to Kosovo planned by Prime Minister Ivica Dacic was "symbolic," and aimed at motivating the Serbs to participate in the elections and explain why these elections are important for the survival of the Serb community. "If Pristina opposes such a move, it means that Pristina is against the Brussels agreement," said Mihajlovic. Asked about the registration of IDPs for the local elections, Mihajlovic said that the problem had been resolved, and that "there will be 38,000 people who are registered on those lists that will be recorded and they will be able to vote." Mihajlovic said that the government treats all Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija equally, and has "one motive" - that the Serbs in Kosovo "live in better conditions than before." (file) RTS Tanjug
