President Boris Tadic has stated that hooligans will very soon be punished and that they will not halt Serbia’s EU integration process. Tadic told Italian RAI TV that some of the hooligans would very soon stand trial. President addresses recent violence He pointed out that the "EU integration process and the issue of hooligans were two separate issues" and that the Serbian government was working on solving the issue. The president says that it was "unnecessary" to insist on determining whether Italian or Serbian police were responsible for preventing riots in Genoa. He also expressed hope that communication between Serbian and Italian police would improve in the future in order to create a better atmosphere ahead of football games that could lead to danger and conflicts. Tadic stressed that the state had been combating extreme supporter groups even before the incident in Genoa. ”We are taking all necessary measures against hooligans and extremists during football games,” he concluded.
