FM Vuk Jeremic said in Budapest on Friday that the next ten days and the first half of 2011 will be very important for Serbia's EU integration. Serbia has a very important ten days coming up, since the EU Foreign Affairs Council might on October 25 request from the European Commission to express an opinion on whether the official Belgrade is ready to start negotiations on Serbia's accession to the EU, Jeremic said at a joint press conference after meeting with Hungarian Foreign Minister Janos Martonyi. "Key days for Serbia's European path" Jeremic said that Serbia expects a lot from the first half of next year, when the EU will be chaired by Hungary. The two countries agreed to hold very intensive bilateral contacts over this period, because the six months of 2011 will probably be critical for Serbia when it comes to EU accession, Jeremic said. Serbia will not recognize Kosovo's independence as that would be contrary to its Constitution and the will of its people, Jeremic said. The issues of Kosovo and of European integration should be considered separately, he said. Martonyi reiterated that Hungary supports Serbia's speedy entry into the EU and announced that the Hungarian parliament will ratify the Stabilization and Association Agreement in the next few weeks. Hungary firmly supports the view that Serbia's request for candidacy should be submitted to the European Commission as soon as possible, Martonyi added. The Hungarian foreign minister welcomed the announced start of dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, initiated by the latest UN Security Council resolution. After the meeting, the two ministers announced that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban will visit Serbia in the near future. Vuk Jeremic (Tanjug, file)
