Interior Minister Ivica Dacic says that while public order and peace are violated on occasion, "it is certain that no one is stronger than the state". His comments came late on Monday, a day after anti-gay parade rioting in Belgrade that left several hundred policemen injured. Minister: No one stronger than state Speaking about the Sunday outbreak of violence, Dacic told state broadcaster RTS that those were groups that were prepared to obstruct the parade and that they were not isolated groups, but that there are also groups that cooperate. Dacic said that several dozen people were arrested before the parade for preventive reasons. State Secretary at the Ministry of Justice Slobodan Homen also evaluated that no one is stronger than the state, underscoring that this was evident on Sunday. He said that no participant of the Pride Parade was injured, which shows that “the state is indeed stronger than anyone” and that those who looted, burned and destroyed will be held responsible for their acts. When asked whether the Sunday violence was a “rehearsal for something bigger to come, where some mysterious force might decide on the issue of who rules Serbia,” Dacic said that people come into power and leave through elections. Dacic also said that the use of violence to come into power is absolutely unacceptable in every democratic state. Dacic, whose Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), founded and led by Slobodan Milosevic, lost power in 2000 to return to government in 2008, said that the decision to hold the gay parade was not his, but that this was decided "on October 5, 2000" - when the Milosevic regime fell. "Well, on October 5 (2000) you decided to join Europe and accept European values. Now it needs to be said to Europe: there, we had the parade, are you happy now? But no, they say, there was chaos on the streets," Dacic said, and added that he was "being attacked" from the EU for the past year because last year's Pride Parade was canceled. Homen told RTS that he believed that there are groups and individual organizations that are capable of causing violence, but that they are not capable of doing anything major in the country and that this would become evident through the work of investigative organs. Minister: No one stronger than state

Speaking about the Sunday outbreak of violence, Dačić told state broadcaster RTS that those were groups that were prepared to obstruct the parade and that they were not isolated groups, but that there are also groups that cooperate.

Dačić said that several dozen people were arrested before the parade for preventive reasons.

When asked whether the Sunday violence was a “rehearsal for something bigger to come, where some mysterious force might decide on the issue of who rules Serbia,” Dačić said that people come into power and leave through elections.

Dačić also said that the use of violence to come into power is absolutely unacceptable in every democratic state.

Dačić, whose Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), founded and led by Slobodan Milošević, lost power in 2000 to return to government in 2008, said that the decision to hold the gay parade was not his, but that this was decided "on October 5, 2000" - when the Milošević regime fell.

Homen told RTS that he believed that there are groups and individual organizations that are capable of causing violence, but that they are not capable of doing anything major in the country and that this would become evident through the work of investigative organs.
