It depends on one's definition of success. Was there a march? Yes. Was it cheap? No. Was it supported by the wider community? No. Was there a point to the march? I don't know. Did it achieve anything? Yes. Now the community distrusts the governments motives & will seal the governments' fate (pardon the pun) this coming election. Some people got to throw stuff & smash things & a few rowdy pride paraders flipped the bird. Your thoughts.

The point was for anti-Serb NGOs directed by the US & UK to show Serbian society as 'backward' & to keep us out of the EU for finding Gayness repulsive.

The goal wasn't to convince all the knuckle-draggers (or anyone really) in this society to love gays. Where did you get that idea?

The goal was to have 500 people walk 1 block in support of some pretty elementary human rights, and that's what was successfully accomplished, in the most successful way that's possible in this country at this time.

Call it routed or whatevah, it's jus semantics anyway because the point is that the State failed to convince the People that Gayness wasnt a threat to Serbdom. The rioters just represent an extreme reaction & manifestation of widespread public sentiment that showed the state that the people didnt accept its authority on Gayness.

THE STATE WAS ROUTED by its failure to provide an accepting atmosphere for the parade - its armed personell were attacked, the people regretably damaged assets of those they blamed for disrupting our social norms and made prospects for any future legislative extremism and any Gay Serbs 'coming out' very bleak. Then they went home after making their violent point.

"Yes Zoran of course OTPOR are responsible for everything including the looting and attacks on police a few days ago! Probably they oranised it all on October 5th 2000 and they are planning a coup against the current government! "
(bganon, 12 October 2010 18:06)

Not only OTPOR, it's a big conspiracy of all the evil in the world (namely NATO, THE WEST, Soros and the USA) against the peace-loving Serbs under their freely and democratically elected president Milosevic, the hero, the defender of Serbian faith and culture. A big master plan! All the Serbs which have been protesting in 2000 have been bought and payed by THE WEST! Mark my words! ;-)

the decision to hold the gay parade was not his, but that this was decided "on October 5, 2000" - when the Milošević regime fell.

There you have it, Otpor decided to have the gay parade on 5th Oct, 2000. It seems that was the day we became servants of the EU.

It's no wonder so many Serbians are upset. They say with every revolution comes a counter-revolution.

The state wasn't routed yesterday. The rioters are in jail and the police are their jailkeepers. If the state were routed, it would be the other way around.

There is a name for what you are suggesting Lenard and its proponents are mainly found in places like Iran.

Some call it theocracy, others call it clero-fascism or clerical fascism.

Ironic though that you appear to be expressing support for those that would liquidate you along with gays and gypsies. No wonder Serbs and Croats joined together in christian battle in Bosnia against 'muslum hoardes'.

Well some have suggested that what happened is a practice run in a possible attempt to overthrow the government. It is suggested that this was very well planned and had the backing of some political figures hiding in the shadows.

In any case a very firm hand is needed to ensure that extreme right wing shadowy groups don't get ideas about their pathetic stations.

Dacic, The Holy Orthodox Church that you & your atheistic SPS cohorts reject is stronger than your secular state & when the Church & People are in a spiritual communion, they trump the state together, just like yesterday when your state was routed.

When asked whether the Sunday violence was a “rehearsal for something bigger to come, where some mysterious force might decide on the issue of who rules Serbia "it is certain that no one is stronger than the state Interior Minister Ivica Dačić says. He should be unequivocally fired God is stronger then any state and if the state dares to go against Gods moral laws. You have God to contend with and you will lose big time.
