The Islamic Community of Serbia (IZ) is celebrating 142 years of existence in Serbia. Reis-ul-ulema Adem Zilkic said that representatives of the IZ are content with the fact that their activities are helping to develop a democratic country. Islamic Community celebrates anniversary “We are satisfied that we are developing a country in which we enjoy all rights and freedoms equally with other churches and religious communities, which is why we are content,” Zilkic said. “I must say as a honest man that I am a little concerned about some of our representatives that have strayed and because of the rhetoric, arrogance, and non-exemplary words they are sending these days, which are not good for the all-encompassing atmosphere and co-existence with everyone else, even within our own community,” Zilkic said. He said that he is not happy about the fact that the situation in the IZ has moved from the legal to the political arena. He said that the community will progress with the support of the state and other religious communities, with its activities that will contribute to the country “moving along on the path it has already begun moving on.” The reception was also attended by Minister Without Portfolio Sulejman Ugljanin, Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac, Security Information Agency (BIA) Director Sasa Vukadinovic, Russian Ambassador Alexandr Konuzin, President of the Association of Jewish Municipalities in Serbia Aleksandar Necak, and many other religious, military and diplomatic officials.
