Former Republic of Srpska President Biljana Plavsic, who is serving a prison sentence for war crimes in Sweden, will be released on October 27. The announcement was made by the Swedish government today. Former RS leader to be free Oct. 27 The Hague Tribunal approved the former RS president’s parole on September 15 given that, on October 24, she will have served two-thirds of her sentence. Plavsic (79) was convicted to genocide, crimes against humanity and crimes against Bosniaks and Croats in Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1991-92, as well as violating the Geneva Convention. She turned herself in to the Hague Tribunal in January 2001, and, in October 2002, pleaded guilty to persecution of Muslims and Croats in 37 Bosnian municipalities in 1992.
