Dragan Maric, who entered the Presidency yesterday carrying two hand grenades, has been questioned by police and remanded in custody for 48 hours. He will then be turned over to the investigative judge. Presidency bomber remanded in custody The Transpareny Monitoring, Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Council has called for the authorities to, besides pressing charges against Maric, launch an inquiry into what led to yesterday's incident. Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said earlier the Dragan Maric case highlighted the need for a thorough review of security procedures for public figures and institutions. The day someone enters the Presidency building carrying two hand grenades and threatens to detonate them was not such a rare situation, Dacic said. Even though the incident was tantamount to an attack on a state institution, he said that President Boris Tadic’s life had not been in danger for one moment. “It’s good that everything ended peacefully. I wouldn’t say that there were any lapses by the security services, while the police and army reacted adequately,” the minister said. He explained that Serbian politicians received dozens of threatening messages on a daily basis, and that they were all checked out. Maric has been the subject of an investigation for some years, and has even been arrested, though the prosecution did not believe there were sufficient grounds to launch proceedings in this case. “It certainly means that we need to look at everyone’s security a bit more seriously. That will be the subject of analysis. The military services could have dealt with it immediately, no-one was hurt, but we always go for the peaceful way, that’s how it is in 90 percent of cases,” said Dacic. Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Delic , a member of Security Committee, said that the Maric case was a big warning. “It needs to be analyzed, everyone knew about this man. When he said he was going to detonate himself, that showed he wanted to do harm to himself. If his intentions had been a different, that would’ve been dangerous. Everyone needs to take a good look at themselves,” said the minister. MP Dragan Sormaz said that the fact that a man carrying two hand grenades had been allowed to enter the Presidency building unhindered was an oversight on the part of the intelligence and military intelligence agencies, which, he said, were responsible for the president’s security. “Those who were responsible for it didn’t judge it right. No-one would’ve let Barack Obama enter the building, but Tadic went in,” said Sormaz . Unlike with the Maric case, guests on B92’s talk show Replika did not have a single word of reproach for the security organization during the visit of U.S. Vice President Joe Biden. The Transpareny Monitoring, Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Council has called for the authorities to, besides pressing charges against Marić, launch an inquiry into what led to yesterday's incident.

Interior Minister Ivica Dačić said earlier the Dragan Marić case highlighted the need for a thorough review of security procedures for public figures and institutions.

The day someone enters the Presidency building carrying two hand grenades and threatens to detonate them was not such a rare situation, Dačić said.

Even though the incident was tantamount to an attack on a state institution, he said that President Boris Tadić’s life had not been in danger for one moment.

“It’s good that everything ended peacefully. I wouldn’t say that there were any lapses by the security services, while the police and army reacted adequately,” the minister said.

He explained that Serbian politicians received dozens of threatening messages on a daily basis, and that they were all checked out.

Marić has been the subject of an investigation for some years, and has even been arrested, though the prosecution did not believe there were sufficient grounds to launch proceedings in this case.

MP Dragan Šormaz said that the fact that a man carrying two hand grenades had been allowed to enter the Presidency building unhindered was an oversight on the part of the intelligence and military intelligence agencies, which, he said, were responsible for the president’s security.

“Those who were responsible for it didn’t judge it right. No-one would’ve let Barack Obama enter the building, but Tadić went in,” said Šormaz .
