The Serbian Renewal Movement (SPO) held a convention in Belgrade Sunday. Leader Vuk Draskovic said that his party "has no option" but to consider a coalition with the Democratic Party (DS), as the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) and New Serbia (NS) "are supportive of policies detrimental to Serbia". Draskovic: Alliance with DS for good of nation Draskovic's party won less than five percent of votes a year ago and did not enter the previous parliament. They have teamed up with Boris Tadic's DS, G17 Plus, and the League of Vojvodina Social Democrats (LSV) for the May 11 ballot. "You have all been waiting for the Renewal Movement to enter a new coalition with the Democratic Party of Serbia and New Serbia as announced ahead of the latest presidential election." "These expectations had merit until these parties were turned by their emotions on Kosovo to a policy that serves the interests of neither Kosovo Serbs nor Serbs in Serbia," Draskovic told the party main board, Beta news agency reported. Draskovic went on to say that he has "consistently opposed any parliamentary consensus with the Serb Radical Party" adding that unity is now the best choice because "the progressive and conservative can't exist in the same coalition." He added that his party "as always been true to itself" which is why it is now opting for a coalition "ith the same people it was allied with from March 9, 1991 to Oct. 5, 2000" The SPO was not a part of the coalition known as DOS, which in the fall of 2000 ousted Slobodan Milosevic. According to Draskovic, his party will embark on an "intense election campaign" on March 23, adding that this election is "not about seats in Parliament, but ensuring a positive post-May 11 future for the nation and state".
