The EU foreign ministers yesterday paved the way for a possible agreement on a joint Kosovo stand, reports say. Beta news agency quoted the chairman of the session, Portuguese Minister Luis Amado, as saying that this stand should become the means of stabilizing not only Kosovo, but the entire region. EU to debate Kosovo after UN SC At the session, the officials said that the EU is unanimous in the stand that its mission should be deployed in Kosovo, but that the "difficult and complex" solving of the status of Kosovo should be made in agreement with the UN, the international community, as well as with Belgrade and Pristina. EU High Representative Javier Solana stated that, although Belgrade and Pristina did not reach an agreement during the negotiations under the auspices of the Contact Group, "this does not mean we cannot continue our search for bilateral agreements between the two sides and the European Union," adding that the EU will continue to do so, with the aim of guaranteeing security in the Western Balkans. Slovenian Minister Dimitrij Rupel said the majority of the EU's ministers have spoken in favor of Serbia's integration with the EU as soon as possible, of the signing, in a month or two, of the Stabilization and Association Agreement and, after that, of Serbia's becoming a candidate for EU membership. Rupel pointed out that the debate about Serbia was long and thorough, reiterating that the final decision on the level of Belgrade's cooperation with the Hague tribunal was up to the EU.
