Serbia and Serbs do not mind joining the EU as long as the will be treated with the respect they deserve (like all others) and not being reminded (to blackmail them) of their so-called "collective guilt" during the break-up of Yugoslavia (which is the biggest nonsense). Remember that all ethnic groups made up Yugoslavia and just because the capital was Belgrade does not give the right to blame the Serbs and Serbia for all bad things (it would have been better if Zagreb would have been the capital since Tito was a Croat and I wonder if the Croats had been the bad guys then), which of course is always easier than taking a close look at your own imperfections. However, the Serbian people have to ask themselves what will be the real benefits of a EU membership (not an illegal land grap). Serbia has to look to the future which can be bright, but on the other hand one cannot forget about the past. Maybe it is time that candidate members like Croatia and Bosnia start sending some war criminals to The Hague. If the EU needs Serbia that desperately then maybe they should make some nice gestures and telling the US and NATO to stay out of these internal European affairs. Europe has to show some balls now otherwise the US will dictate them for the next 100 years (ask the Japanese about their experiences).

"the "difficult and complex" solving of the status of Kosovo should be made in agreement with the UN, the international community, as well as with Belgrade and Priština."

And that means there will undoubtedly be an imposed solution.

First, we need EU unity, and that means getting the Cypriots, Slovaks, Greeks, Spaniards, Romanians, Bulgarians, and others on board. All are in favor of a negotiated solution, and in order to do that, it's the Big Powers that need to compromise with the "little powers" in order to reach consensus. That means watering down the intensity of independence, it's immediate need, and the level of actual authority delegated to Pristina.

Second, there is a clear desire on part of the EU to keep Serbia on board. If we've learned anything from the 1990s, it's that conflict ensues whenever border changes are hastily made. I sincerely hope EU officials have the foresight to see this and make Kosovo's independence gradual, negotiable, and conditional.

Too much is at stake now to risk.

Of course the EU is not unified on the Kosovo status (it is not just Cyprus that is against, I am 100% sure that Greece, Spain Slovakia, and others have the same opinion). What is really sad is that the EU has chosen to become the 51st state of the USA. This was the choice of a group of unelected and corrupt politicians and not the choice of the people of Europe. What is even more sad is that this will be the biggest sell out of Christians to Muslims by a once Christian Europe (but it been turned into an anti-Christ Europe). The sad thing is that in the end the Kosovo Albanians will have been used by the EU and NATO for their grand scheme. Just wait for next week to see what will happen in the UNSC meeting and how the Kosovo Albanian "loving" countries will respond to a legal defeat. It is well known that some wealthy oil-rich countries made some demands to the oil-addicted West about establishing a second Muslim state in Europe and as a true addict they had to steal (from Serbia) to get their next shot of "happiness". Anyway, history will be harsh in its judgement and whatever happens Serbia and Serbs will be proud enough to look others in the eyes and say that their followed their hearts. Finally I am very happy that Russia stands by Serbia and that is not a sign of weakness.

...And do you honestly think Serbia is going to join EU...this year? next year? 5 years from now? When?

I guess the question we all should be asking is, "where in belgrade is Mladic being protected at?"

Rupel pointed out that the debate about Serbia was long and thorough, reiterating that the final decision on the level of Belgrade's cooperation with the Hague tribunal was up to the EU.

With regard to "cooperation with the Hague tribunal" - Serbia should not claim to accountability on the arrest of the "war criminals" due to the fact that numerous articles on this website have reflected that these individuals "used" to be in Serbia, but have evidence that they "reside" in Bosnia. The UN needs to be accountable for their arrest & not Serbia.

Furthermore, any premature declaration of independence made by any "leader" of KosovO - Ceku or Thachi - is only meant to provoke or cause a stir. Shame on anyone who takes the word of these known & classified criminals by the ICTY as being "gospel".

You can't claim something that wasn't yours in the first place!

The idea of Kosovo indep asap & Serbia into EU asap makes sense now. I'm starting to belive that the EU wants Serbia in the EU but w/o Kosovo & is 90%. Who ever brought that up first, I thought you were silly but now its sorta makeing sense.

but that the "difficult and complex" solving of the status of Kosovo should be made in agreement with the UN, the international community, as well as with Belgrade and Priština

-Now this tells me that EU is not that unified on Kosovo status and I dare to say there is more than one country that oppose to this flagrant act. However, they can send EU mission under the resolution 1244 but UN is inevitable when it comes to decision on final stautus and that will be pain in the neck for someone-guess who?

"if Kosova declares the independence before the Serbia elections"

- would you like to give us all another date for such folly of illegal secession declaration that can be extended again and again and again....? Dec. 20008 perhaps ?

Of course yesterday we heard the suggestion that only one EU country was against such folly but we all know that the contrary is the case and today heard it once more just in case some still dream;
Fico: Slovakia Won't Recognise Kosovo's Unilaterally-Declared Independence
http://www.sktoday.com/content/991_fico-slovakia-won-039-t-recognise-kosovo-039-s-unilaterally-declared-independence

I guess that is why the EU now suggest they will wait again till the discussions in the UN on the 19th December. The "few" EU countries who had hoped to abandon EUropean foreign policy with blinded and crititical acceptance of US foreign policy have failed - why because it is illegal and against all that the EU is founded upon!

I think that Kosovars would be nice to do a favour to our Serbain neighbours.

If these failed Serbian politicians are worht a vote, it is up to Serbian people.

The EU is doing a good job of keeping America happy while at the same time saying
what Srbija and Rusija are saying that it must be done through the UN.In a sense they are giving mixed signals or is it the propaganda that makes it seem that way? Srbija must stand firm and say we will talk about compromise but we will not give up our land.
Who would have ever thought that Rusija would stand on the side of international law and America against it

- EU Unity position is thus we would like to take on UNMIK administration but clearly the "few" EU states who blindly follow US foreign policy cannnot be acceptable to EU Unity!

Thus the EUropean position in the months ahead will be EUMIK under continued Serbian Sovereignity i.e. EU supervised autonomy !!

Its the 11th December and Unlce Sam's false promise is waning rapidly illegal secessionist declarations will be ignored. But of course some will stil dream on to an imaginary day after Serbian Presidential elections, but when that comes and goes what will be the next day.

Where's Ceku these days?
