Democratic Party (DS) official Dragoljub Micunovic says that elections need to be announced before the year is over. “In avoiding elections, we are risking a violation of the constitution and the Constitutional Law and getting in a situation where, after the New Year, someone might be calling into question the president and his legitimacy,” Micunovic told daily Vecernje novosti. Democrats call on DSS to announce elections “Such a situation would not be beneficial for President Boris Tadic and it is understandable why he wants to avoid that,” Micunovic said. He said that the necessary laws will be adopted in the next several weeks and that the stage will be set for presidential vote. Asked whether the cabinet would be disrupted if DS’s coalition partners the Democratic Party of Serbia (DS) and New Serbia (NS) nominate a presidential candidate, Micunovic said that the cabinet would "survive", but that this might affect the level of cooperation and trust. “The existence of two ruling coalitions cannot be tolerated; one political and one ideological, which do not match up,” Micunovic said.
