Hague Chief Prosecutor Carla Del Ponte continued her Belgrade visit today with a meeting with President Boris Tadic. Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica told Del Ponte yesterday that cooperation with the Hague Tribunal was in Serbia’s best interests and that it should be completed as soon as possible. Del Ponte and Tadic to meet today Kostunica said that clear political will and determination existed for cooperation with the Tribunal, according to his press office. Del Ponte said that it was very important for every war crimes fugitive to be arrested and extradited as soon as possible. After her meeting in Belgrade, Del Ponte will submit a report on Serbia’s level of cooperation to the European Union. Whether or not Serbia and Brussels sign the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) will depend on the contents of this report, though full cooperation is the main condition required for signing the agreement. Executive Director of the Balkan Institute for Democracy, Ivan Vejvoda, told B92 that initialing of the SAA was expected before the arrival of Del Ponte in Belgrade. “I think that at least one more fugitive from the list of four must be extradited to the Hague. Karadzic is another matter. I have just heard that the entire archive will be submitted on October 1, those are significant steps. In order for it to be convincing, at least two more fugitives will probably have to be sent to The Hague,” Vejvoda said.
