Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac said Friday that the Kosovo problem could not be solved militarily. “I am certain that no responsible politician believes that the problem can be solved through military action. Our recent past is a perfect example, it is always a bad solution,” Sutanovac said. "Kosovo solution will not be found through force" Sutanovac said that the media had recently been discussing more actively Serbian membership of NATO. “No one has invited us, nor are we ready to become members. The political consequences of such a campaign are best explained by the foreign minister, who said that we would be risking the loss of support from NATO and European Union member countries by using force in Kosovo,” Sutanovac said. “A lot of our officers are being trained in NATO member countries. I am not expecting a parliamentary ruling to stop reform of the defense system. I think that it was more an election campaign promise than an actual strategy,” Sutanovac said. “No country has lately joined the EU without first being a member of NATO. That is a strategic question, and it needs to be supported with a set of responsible, wise political decisions." "All of this should enable our citizens to receive better schooling, better health care, easier travel, greater job opportunities, and the opportunity to live better,” Sutanovac said.
