B92 I note the correction ;

"No country has LATELY joined the EU without first being a member of NATO."

Would have been good of you to acknowledge it and moreover it is very surprising to think such a huge error in translation could be made but then we live and learn.

However, it would thus seem that Šutanovac is following the lead set by other countries and is thus then not thinking independently but accepting what is the US dictated norm of wanting to prop up the NATO alliance that is outdated and does not even adhere to it's own charter let alone the UN to whom all NATO alliance memebers have an obligation to not wage war on another UN recognised state - but then I guess one rule for one and the rest can just suffer the consequences. Not sure Serbia needs to follow blindly because others have done so lately and given that EU membership rules do not include NATO in the SAA process then why on earth should Serbia need to join NATO? No PfP is all that is required.

To the Nato bashers in here...

Just remember that no country has been forced to supply troops to these "cowboy missions" in Iraq and Afghanistan. Remember the concept... coalition of the willing?

In any case, an optimist would argue that a membership in the alliance, would provide good incentives to help upgrade a country's military capabilities, make that country less likely to go to war with another member of the alliance and overall be a case study in cooperation.

But then again, I'm not a Serb so ... whatever floats your boat folks.

Ballkan

pre 16 godina

Now I think is time for Ballkan countries to have the positive "broken point". I mean to use the possibility to join EU and to have a good prespective and to think how to build the future, to start thinking that history belongs to the past and the future differs from it. Unfurtunately there are still people who don't want to see the future, who wants war and hate.
Is not the case now to use force in Ballkan anymore, our experience was that nobody was winner, everybody is in their own place just destroied spiritually and materially, is shame for entities of ExYougoslavia that now are back with other countries like Bullgaria, Romania and so on. If there was clever people on ExYougoslavia now every entity could have been part of EU and even in a better level of development than these new members of EU.
Conclusion:
Never is late, let's use now the possibility and be part ef EU, peace for all and all for peace.
Hates leads to nothing.

“No country has ever joined the EU without first being a member of NATO."

opps now that is a either a sloppy translation or a false statement by Šutanovac since it is well known that there is no requirement what so ever that suggests NATO membership must be preceded for EU membership. Moreover, there are cases to refute totally the above statement;

Austria joined EU in 1995
Sweden joined EU in 1995
Finland joined EU in 1995
Ireland joined EU in 1973
- none of which are part of NATO.

In which case it really does not follow that joining NATO will
"enable our citizens to receive better schooling, better health care, easier travel, greater job opportunities, and the opportunity to live better,”
On the contrary it will only mean certain death for soldiers who will be sent to other Illegal wars that the US wishes to wage.

Why doesn't Šutanovac promote the idea of a 'European' defense force that Serbia can be a positive member when joining the EU rather then party to the whims of US imperialism.
