Serbia, China sign safety control memorandum

Dimitrijević said that China was Serbia’s important strategic partner, “not only as a member of the Security Council, but also as a country that records constant growth in its GDP and foreign trade”.

Dimitrijević said “Serbia has undergone the difficult, but important road of transition in the past six years, while the process of privatization is drawing to an end”.

With this, in Dimitrijević’s opinion, Serbia fulfilled the conditions for signing the EU stabilization and association agreement.

He also said that many Serbian laws have been harmonized with the EU legislation and standards, adding that the Law on consumer protection has been adopted, while “control of quality of products and services has a very important role”.

Dimitrijević said he believed the memorandum would lead to better consumer protection in both countries.

“Serbia still does not have the competitive strength to enter the Chinese market, however it is ready for cooperation and it welcomes the arrival of large Chinese companies since it is an important step in the economic cooperation between the two countries,” Dimitrijević was quoted.

Serbia and China are also set to sign a memorandum of cooperation in tourism.

Zirong said that the signing of the document would improve corn and other agricultural exports to China, and added he believed both sides would abide by the provisions of the Memorandum.

Chinese Ambassador to Serbia Li Guobang attended the signing ceremony.
