BELGRADE The commission probing murders of journalists has clearly established that Rade Markovic pulled the strings in the murder of Slavko Curuvija, a weekly writes. According to Nedeljnik, Markovic was joined in this by Belgrade DB Center head Milan Radonjic. "Markovic organized Curuvija's murder" Journalist and publisher Slavko Curuvija was shot and killed in April 1999. Quoting sources in the commission, the magazine says that "the only thing that one is waiting for is for Special Prosecutor Miljko Radisavljevic to bring an indictment." "All that is missing is 20 seconds of a break in communications between (mobile telephony) beacons that unequivocally indicates that Markovic and Radonjic were directly in charge of the operation for Curuvija's murder," Nedeljnik's source says, adding that "Vucic insisted on bringing an indictment immediately and putting the Curuvija murder case to rest." The magazine goes on to say that Markovic's fear of being charged with this murder and perhaps with some other political murders committed in the course of the 1990s was the reason for the alleged threat that he would publish files that would throw Serbia "to its knees." Nedeljnik further says that Markovic, "when all his efforts to secure his freedom fall through, might really snap and start talking about all the murders that happened in the 1990s and were sponsored by the service." Nedeljnik adds that Slobodan Milosevic's widow Mirjana Markovic, son Marko Milosevic, and former Defense Minister Veljko Kadijevic " live in fear of what Markovic might say." Rade Markovic has been put on trial and sent to jail for 40 years for his role in the murder of several SPO party officials and former Serbian President Ivan Stambolic, that took place in 1999 and 2000, respectively.
