Former editor released from custody

Former editor-in-chief of Belgrade daily Glas Javnosti Slavoljub Kačarević was released on Monday pending trial.

Former editor-in-chief of Belgrade daily Glas Javnosti Slavoljub Kacarevic was released on Monday pending trial. Belgrade District Court Spokesperson Ivana Ramic told Tanjug that the decision came "because there was no reason to hold him in custody any longer". Former editor released from custody She said that the judge in charge of the case released Kacarevic with the prosecutor's approval after questioning three witnesses, adding that he was detained out of fear that he might influence witnesses during the investigation. Kacarevic spent 13 days in jail, after his October 28 arrest. Publisher Radisav Rodic was also arrested, and both face charges of abuse of office. Glas Javnosti, and tabloid Kurir are among Rodic's Manami company publications. Rodic and Kacarevic were investigated on suspicion that they gained illegal profits in 2001 at the expense of Komercijalna Bank while working as owner and director of the company. Rodic will remain in custody, it was also announced.
