The trial of two former Serbian police officers accused of murdering three Albanian brothers has been adjourned. The trial has been put back to October 27 after the deputy war crimes prosecutor failed to appear at the main hearing. Ylli, Agron and Mehmet Bytyqi were killed in Petrovo Selo in 1999. Bytyqi brothers trial adjourned At the trial under way before the Belgrade Municipal Court’s War Crimes Trial Chamber, Sreten Popovic and Milos Stojanovic are accused of aiding and abetting the perpetration of war crimes against prisoners-of-war. The indictment states that on July 8, 1999, Popovic ordered Stojanovic to arrest the Bytyqi brothers, who had left a prison in Prokuplje after serving a sentence for illegally entering Yugoslavia from Albania, and take them to the Interior Ministry (MUP) headquarters in Petrovo Selo. Popovic then took the Bytyqi brothers, who were American citizens of Albanian decent, to a holding center. The next day, July 8, he handed the three brothers over to unidentified MUP officials who executed them. The posthumous remains of the Bytyqi brothers were found with their hands tied behind their backs with wire in a mass grave in Petrovo Selo in 2001. At the beginning of the trial on November 13, 2007, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

At the trial under way before the Belgrade Municipal Court’s War Crimes Trial Chamber, Sreten Popović and Miloš Stojanović are accused of aiding and abetting the perpetration of war crimes against prisoners-of-war.
