Police (MUP) in Vranje say their officers did not severely beat a man they took downtown on Nov. 7. A man identified as Pedja Stosic was reported to the local police by his father at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday for assaulting family members and threatening to kill them. Police in Vranje reject brutality accusations MUP now says a patrol responded to the call, preventing family violence, with Stosic insulting and threatening police officers as they intervened. "As there was suspicion Pedja Stosic committed criminal acts of family violence and obstruction of officers maintaining public order, he was taken to the Vranje police station and interviewed there," the MUP said, but added no force was used in the process. Earlier this week, Stosic called a news conference to show reporters what he said was evidence of police brutality: a swollen right eye and bruises on his arms, back, and both legs.
