Chamber of Commerce (PKS) President Milos Bugarin says rising food prices, which drove the inflation in 2010 and 2011, won't likely be halted in the short-term. In an interview for Tanjug news agency, Bugarin argued that the government should up funds for the agriculture sector from 2.8 to 10 percent of the budget. PKS chief urges more money for agriculture Commenting on a letter sent to the government by the central bank (NBS) chief Dejan Soskic, Bugarin recalled that the PKS issued warnings in 2010 that a serious inflationary blow would arise from increase of food prices, and added that this tendency has continued in 2011 as well. "This is the consequence of an inadequately conducted agriculture policy and the attitude to primary agricultural production, mainly livestock breeding," the PKS president said. Soskic said in his recent letter that current inflationary pressures in Serbia were primarily caused by instabilities in the food market, which was why systemic measures should be implemented without delay with a view to stabilizing the food market and reducing the instability of food prices. Over the first three months of this year, the inflation rate reached 5.5 percent, while in 2010 it totaled 10.3 percent. Milos Bugarin (Beta, file)
