Serbian Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac says he expects Serbia and Kuwait to soon sign an agreement on defense cooperation. It would enable the two countries' military industries to establish good cooperation in the economic domain as they did in the political one. Serbia-Kuwait defense deal "expected" "I think that political relations between Serbia and Kuwait are very good and stable, but that there is much unused potential in the areas of civil engineering and defense industry,” Sutanovac told Tanjug. Previously, Sutanovac and Kuwaiti Ambassador to Serbia Fawzi Abdulaziz Al-Yassim raised the flag of Kuwait in front of the country's embassy in Belgrade thus announcing three jubilees which will be marked by the state of Kuwait. During 2011, Kuwait will mark 50 years of the country's independence from the British, 20 years since the end of Iraqi occupation and 5 years of rule of the current Emir, head of state, Sabah IV Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. Sutanovac recalled that Kuwait and the Emir have great respect for Serbia stemming from their good bilateral relations. The minister underscored that one of the most powerful weapons used by the Kuwaiti Army is T-84 battle tank purchased from Yugoslavia over two decades ago. "We would like to modernize this type of tank and thus create a very strong weapon which will be useful for the defense industry in Serbia, as well as the region and other countries," the minister said.
