In the first six months of this year, Serbian exports have increased by 20.4 percent compared to the same period in 2009. According to the Chamber of Commerce, Serbia exported USD 2.6bn worth of products and important USD 6.4bn. The foreign trade deficit for the first five months of 2010 was about USD 2.82bn, which is 11.4 percent less than the same period last year. Serbia’s major trade partners were Germany, Italy and Russia. These three countries account for 30 percent of the total trade of Serbia, according to the Institute for Market Research. Serbia exports the most to Bosnia-Herzegovin, followed by Italy, Germany with USD 388.3mn and Montenegro. About 42 percent of all Serbian exports this year went to these five countries. The most imports came from the Russian Federation, Germany, Italy, and China, which together make up 38.9 percent of all imports to Serbia in the first five months of 2010. Serbia imports of oil and gas pushed Russia to the top of the deficit list, as trade with this country amounts with 22.2 percent of Serbia’s total trade deficit this year. In this category, Russia is followed by China, Germany and then Hungary. Serbia has positive trade numbers (exporting more than it imports) with Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro and Macedonia.
