President Boris Tadic announced investments worth EUR 450mn in the Bor mines. He said that the RTB Bor company and the entire town have a great perspective in terms of the recovery of economic development, adding that the state would help as much as it can. Tadic: Mining important to Serbia He reminded that 2.5 percent of world reserves of copper are found in Serbia and this fact alone shows that it can be beneficial to invest in research and new equipment. Tadic followed Bor workers 600 meters under the ground into the copper mines, adding that it is not an everyday experience for him and that he was convinced of how difficult the job of a miner can be. “In the future, when we invest in technology, we will be able to look for strategic partners for the Bor mine, but I am not sure that we will need a majority strategic partner at that time,” Tadic said. Since Serbia has great reserves of minerals, investing in mining can help to increase exports and decrease the foreign debt, he said.
