Economy Minister Mladjan Dinkic told B92 that the World Bank has written off USD 550mn of Serbia’s foreign debt owed for Kosovo. Dinkic stressed that this does not mean that Belgrade has recognized Kosovo’s independence. Part of Serbia’s Kosovo debt written off “Kosovo’s membership in the World Bank does not mean membership in the United Nations. One question is of the country’s sovereignty, the other is a question of fiscal policies,” Dinkic said. He reminded that Serbia asked the World Bank to free it from paying the “Kosovo debt” a year ago, because there was no pointing return the Kosovo debt while Serbian taxation agencies are not getting any fiscal income from the territory. He said that the USD 550mn that was written off can be used by the state to help Kosovo Serbs.
