Unions: Labor Law "open servility to foreign interests"

"Attacking the wages, which are lowest in Europe, refusing to define the minimum wage although even the most developed countries do so, making dismissal (of workers) easier in a country with Europe's highest unemployment rate, and no chance of finding a new job - that is the most important direction and the goal of the creators of this law, so they could make workers even poorer, and easier to exploit," the SSSS said.

The organization believes that non-existent employment opportunities and job uncertainty will cause young people losing perspective, pushing others into fear of losing their jobs, and into even greater looming misery.

"The self-proclaimed left-wingers and patriots did not resolve criminal privatization cases, did not find investors, did not kick-start companies and economic recovery - but have instead declared that the victims of the tragic economic situation are the main culprits," the statement added.

The SSSS then announced that a public debate on the proposed new labor legislation "will happen after all - if not the kind envisaged by law, then it will take place in city squares, in companies, in factory grounds, in the street."

"Those whom the law concerns will take part in such a public debate - and they are workers and all citizens of Serbia," the unions said.
