The human factor was at fault in the escape attempted by prisoners and members of the Zemun Clan crime gang Sretko Kalinic and Zeljko Milanovic. This was heard from head of the Administration for the Execution of Penitentiary Sanctions Milan Obradovic, during a news conference he held in Belgrade on Thursday. "Human factor at fault in escape attempt" Interior Minister Ivica Dacic has asked the police to investigate whether the inmates had someone helping them on the inside or whether the observed oversights were coincidental. Dacic said the investigation will determine the circumstances of the attempted escape and uncover any helpers. He said there was intelligence information from abroad that the family of Zeljko Milanovic was looking into ways of obtaining fake documents. He specified that this information mentioned the possibility of escape in the direction of the Hungarian border. Based on the information obtained in August, the Gendarmerie strengthened the outer ring around the detention facility at the special court in Belgrade, even though prison guards do not fall under the jurisdiction of the police. It is very important that the investigation determine the chain of people who might have been involved in helping and the logistics after the escape, said Dacic. Obradovic presented to members of the parliamentary Commission for the Control of Execution of Penitentiary Sanctions the details of the escape attempt, noting an investigation is under way. "So far we have established that some oversights occurred in the work of members of the Administration, i.e. negligence, and the investigation will determine whether it was anything more than that," Obradovic said. He said seven guards have been suspended, and five of them detained in custody. Obradovic said the security level in prisons in Serbia has been raised, and the situation in them is stable and peaceful. Milan Obradovic (Beta) Tanjug
