The murderer and his accomplices have received their just desserts, but I am concerned by the fact that the political background of the prime minister’s murder was never uncovered and presented to the public,” Kacin said. He said that this was the biggest loss in Serbia’s contemporary history. “Zoran Djindjic had a vision of a modern, reformed and European Serbia, which would be on a level footing with all the other EU member-states,” he said. Kacin said that Djindjic’s death was “a great loss for Serbia, the region and all of Serbia,” because he was “one of the rare politicians with a vision that he wanted to achieve in a short period of time, a realistic period of time.” “When he was prime minister, Serbia was known as an engine of democracy and civilizational change in the Western Balkans,” Kacin said.
