Deadly earthquake hits Italy; Serbian PM offers condolences

Deadly earthquake hits Italy; Serbian PM offers condolences

"We are a small country, but we respect the sincere friendship of the Italian people, who has supported us generously many times in the past. On behalf of the Serbian government and my own, I extend the most sincere condolences to the families that lost their beloved ones and I wish those injured a quick recovery."

The earthquake killed at least 45 people and caused great damage overnight in several towns in central Italy, about 140 kilometers east of Rome. About 100 people are listed as missing.

According to Reuters the U.S. Geological Survey measured the quake at M6.2 and said its epicenter was near the Umbrian city of Norcia, while Italy's earthquake institute INGV registered a M6.0, and put the epicenter closer to Accumoli and Amatrice.
