Workers again block intl. railroad
More than a hundred disgruntled workers of a construction company from Lapovo, central Serbia, today again blocked the Belgrade-Niš railroad.

More than a hundred disgruntled workers of a construction company from Lapovo, central Serbia, today again blocked the Belgrade-Nis railroad. The GIK Prvi Maj workers have set up the blockade at the Lapovo station, and are demanding payment of overdue wages and launching of production. Workers again block intl. railroad Nebojsa Stankovic, of the company's union, said that the workers would block the tracks until their requests have been met. According to him, there is a large number of police officers on both sides of the railroad, but no incidents have been reported so far. The protestors blocked the same railroad – which is a part of an international route – several times during the past month. The Ministry of Labor offered an agreement to solve the problem, but the workers refused to sign it, requesting that it be amended, and for deadlines to be set. During last week’s negotiations, the owner of the company promised that he would pay each of the workers RSD 30,000. But since this never materialized, they held a warning protest last Friday, blocking the railraod for three hours. The owner of the company owes his workers from ten to twelve salaries, and various contributions.
