"Serbia is serious candidate" - minister

"Together we concluded that Serbia is a serious candidate, that it has approached every obligatory aspect of EU integration seriously and that to me is the most important recommendation," Joksimovic told Tanjug after a panel discussion about Serbia's EU integration.

McAllister stated he had come to Ljubljana to stress once again that Serbia was on a path towards the EU, and that the government was clearly committed to leading the country to EU membership.

Brussels is willing to help, but the date of Serbia's accession depends largely on the country's progress in the coming years, McAllister pointed out.

He believes the two sides should be prepared to open the first chapter, or a number of them, in 2015, after almost two years of negotiations.
