Defense minister to take part in NATO summit

The participation in the meeting is very important because the Serbian Army is actively engaged in the concept of operational capability, which is a key mechanism for achieving interoperability and capacity development of units in UN and EU peacekeeping operations, said the statement.

Consideration of interoperability is also helpful for understanding the future of engagement and development of cooperation of NATO with its partners, as well as for projection of Serbia's cooperation with NATO in the future - according to the ministry.

Gašić is the first Serbian minister of defense who will participate in such a gathering.

The main topic of the summit will be the crisis in Ukraine and relations with Russia as well as the situation and conflicts with Islamist terrorists in Iraq, Syria and North and West Africa.

The NATO summit will see participation from leaders of member states and representatives of those countries that want to become members of NATO, as well as countries that are members of Partnership for Peace.
