Serbia and Australia sign police agreement

Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic signed on Wednesday with Commissioner of the Australian Federal Police (AFP) Tony Negus a Memorandum of Understanding. The memorandum between the Serbian Ministry of the Interior (MUP) and AFP relates to fight against transnational crime, and is meant to facilitate their direct communication and cooperation. Serbia and Australia sign police agreement “I have signed the Memorandum of Understanding in the fight against organized crime with the AFP Commissioner, and that is the first document signed by the two police authorities, that is the interior ministries, which will ensure direct cooperation in this field, without an intermediary role of other institutions and organizations in the domain of security,” Dacic said. He added that it was concluded that strengthening of police cooperation would be in the interest of both countries, since a number of police operations that have been carried out in recent years showed that there is a connection between criminal gangs in Serbia and Australia. “This refers to drug trafficking in particular,” Dacic said. The interior minister noted that he also talked with head of the Australian security service who insisted on cooperation in the fight against terrorism, given that certain parallel processes, which are happening in Serbia are also present in Australia, and pointed to the issue of radical Islamism, Wahhabism and other.
