Sports minister resigns to take CoE job
Serbia’s Youth and Sport Minister Snežana Samardžić Marković will resign after her appointment as Council of Europe (CoE) director general for democracy.

Serbia’s Youth and Sport Minister Snezana Samardzic Markovic will resign after her appointment as Council of Europe (CoE) director general for democracy. She will propose that one of her closest associates, Youth State Secretary Ivana Kovacevic, take over the office. Sports minister resigns to take CoE job “The Directorate General for Democracy is one of the CoE highest bodies. It includes political issues, regional policy through Congress of local and regional administrations, education, youth and sport,” Samardzic Markovic said in a release. She added that “this is an honor for me, for the entire Serbia and the United Regions of Serbia”. “I will do everything I can from the position to help our country to quickly and successfully go down the European integration road. Also, I will be able to continue to work on decentralization and local politics, which the URS is already doing successfully. My intention is to return to Serbia after my mandate and to help our country with the knowledge, experience and contacts I will acquire in the new position,” she noted.
