"Serbia should apply for EU candidacy"

Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini stated that official Belgrade should submit its EU membership application. He added that this would be "a great encouragement to Serbia for further progress in the EU integration and a confirmation of its European orientation". "Serbia should apply for EU candidacy" "My suggestion is that Belgrade should seriously think about submitting an application for EU membership," Frattini said in an interview published by Novi Sad daily Dnevnik on Wednesday. "There is not one legal reason why Serbia could not do that. Submitting an application for EU membership is certainly not related to the implementation of the Interim Agreement," he pointed out.
